Tragedy on Taiwan's Jade Mountain: Two Colleagues Perish in Fatal Fall

A climbing expedition on Taiwan's iconic 玉山 (Yu Shan), also known as Jade Mountain, has ended in tragedy. Two mountain enthusiasts, colleagues in their twenties, lost their lives after falling from the "魔王坡 (Mowang slope)," a challenging section near the main north peak junction.

The accident, which occurred yesterday, prompted an immediate response. Due to the depth of the fall – approximately 380 meters – the retrieval of the bodies was a complex operation. Rescue teams worked for over four hours before successfully recovering the remains today.

Initial reports indicate that the victims, identified as 陸 (Lu) and 林 (Lin) , were colleagues and not a romantic couple. Their shared passion for climbing led them on this ill-fated journey, leaving another group of colleagues to mourn their loss. The alarm was raised by a fellow climber, 彭 (Peng), who discovered their belongings near the trail and, concerned by the presence of blood and the inability to contact them, reported the incident.

The 南投縣 (Nantou County) Fire Department confirmed the deaths and oversaw the recovery operation, which concluded earlier today.
