Fatal Collision in Pingtung: Cyclist Dies After Motorcycle Accident

A fatal traffic accident occurred in Neipu, Pingtung County, Taiwan, on May 18th, involving a collision between a motorcycle and a bicycle. According to initial reports, a 20-year-old female university student, Ms. Li, was riding a motorcycle when she allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Section 3, Keda Road and Xin'sheng Road.

Upon seeing an elderly man, Mr. Tang, riding a bicycle, Ms. Li reportedly braked suddenly, causing her to lose control and crash. The sliding motorcycle then collided with Mr. Tang, an 83-year-old. Ms. Li was seen rolling several times after the crash before managing to get up. Mr. Tang was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Alcohol tests were administered at the scene. Ms. Li tested negative for alcohol, while Mr. Tang's blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit. The Neipu Police Precinct has requested an autopsy and is working with the prosecutor's office to investigate the incident and determine liability.

The police are urging all drivers in Taiwan to adhere to traffic regulations, including avoiding speeding, not running red lights, and refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol.
