A devastating traffic accident occurred early this morning in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The incident involved a driver, identified as a man surnamed Zheng, who allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol. The driver lost control of his vehicle, crossing into the opposing lane and colliding with three motorcycles.

The accident took place near a construction site at the Jiuru Bridge renovation project in Kaohsiung's Sanmin District, specifically at the intersection of Tongmeng 3rd Road and Jiuru 3rd Road. Construction by the Kaohsiung City Government has closed northbound lanes on Tongmeng 3rd Road, rerouting traffic to the southbound lanes, divided by double yellow lines.

Among the victims was a high school student, Mr. Li, who was tragically killed at the scene. He was riding his motorcycle with his girlfriend at the time of the accident and was on his way home. Mr. Li's girlfriend sustained a brain hemorrhage and is currently receiving emergency medical attention. Mr. Li's grandmother, who he lived with, arrived at the scene and was inconsolable.
