Uber Driver's Tesla Claim Sparks Outrage: Tesla's Response Challenges Driver's Demand

A recent incident in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, involving an Uber driver and a spilled water incident in a Tesla has ignited a significant online backlash. The driver demanded NT$41,000 (approximately $1,300 USD) in compensation after a young girl spilled water on the Tesla's carpet. The incident escalated when the driver reportedly made inappropriate remarks, further fueling public anger. Both Uber and Tesla Taiwan have responded to the controversy.

Popular online personality, Cheap, weighed in on the matter, pointing out that the official response from Tesla Taiwan contradicts the driver's claims. While the repair estimate was authentic, Cheap highlighted that "it was the driver himself who requested the disassembly and inspection," and that the vehicle in question "was not in a state of disrepair."

Cheap further elaborated on the situation, stating that the Uber Tesla driver presented a repair estimate of NT$15,000 (approximately $475 USD) for the repair and claimed the remainder as business interruption. However, Tesla Taiwan’s official statement indicated that the driver specifically requested a comprehensive inspection, including the removal of the carpet and inspection of the undercarriage. The Tesla technician provided the estimate based on the requested inspection. However, as the car was not repaired or disassembled, the estimate was merely preliminary.
