Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to meet with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates this week to discuss the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

The meeting follows a letter from Bill Gates last November expressing his interest in supporting the initiative and potentially offering recognition for the program. "On May 7, Bill Gates will come here following a letter he sent last November requesting a meeting with me. He has expressed keenness to voice his support and deliver an award for our MBG program," the President announced, drawing positive reactions.

During a plenary Cabinet meeting in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo acknowledged the gesture while emphasizing the program's ongoing efforts to reach its target of serving approximately 83 million beneficiaries across the nation. "I feel flattered, but I think we have yet to deserve praise since the program has not fully succeeded. Hopefully, we will achieve the target by December 2025," he stated.

Prabowo clarified that the MBG program's success hinges on consistently providing quality, nutritious meals to targeted groups, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and schoolchildren. He affirmed his administration's continued commitment to the program, irrespective of external support. "He (Gates) said he would provide us with assistance, though I do not know in what form. However, we will remain committed to this initiative event without aid or awards because it serves as an investment for our future generations," he added.

The plenary session was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and a majority of the cabinet members and heads of central government agencies. The meeting served as part of a review of the Red and White Cabinet's performance during its initial six months in office.

This was the third such meeting held this year, with the previous one on March 21, 2025, focusing on preparations for Eid al-Fitr and related state responsibilities.
