Taipei, Taiwan – A fire at a factory in Taoyuan's Luzhu District generated substantial smoke that drifted towards Taoyuan International Airport on Sunday morning, but officials confirmed that flight operations remained unaffected.

The Taoyuan International Airport Corp. reported that while the smoke was clearly visible from within the terminal, both takeoffs and landings proceeded without interruption, assuring passengers that their travel plans would not be disrupted.

The Taoyuan Fire Department responded swiftly to the incident, receiving a report of the fire at a single-story industrial structure at 9:13 a.m. Fire trucks and ambulances were immediately deployed to the scene.

Authorities indicated that approximately 100 metric tons of palm oil and other vegetable oils were stored at the factory location. The Taoyuan Fire Department also reported that there were no injuries or individuals trapped due to the fire. The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are still under investigation.

The Taoyuan Department of Environmental Protection issued a public advisory on Facebook, warning that downwind areas might experience smoke odors. Residents were advised to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and minimize outdoor activities. The department also recommended wearing masks if venturing outside and urged vulnerable individuals to take extra precautions to mitigate potential health risks.

Potentially affected areas identified by the department include Puxin, Zhuwei, and Kuolin wards in Dayuan District, along with Kengkou Ward in Luzhu District.
