New Hope for Second Municipal Hospital in Taoyuan: NTHU and Taoyuan City Government Eye Collaboration

In Taoyuan, the development of a second municipal hospital is taking shape, with National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and the Taoyuan City Government actively exploring a potential partnership. This follows a shift in plans after the initial collaboration between NTHU and Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) to build a hospital in the Taoyuan Aerotropolis faced changes last year. The local community has been closely monitoring the project's progress.

The Taoyuan City Health Bureau has confirmed that discussions have been held with NTHU. The city government is now considering a collaboration with the university to establish the second municipal hospital. If the plan is finalized, a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed by both parties.

The planned NTHU-affiliated hospital in Taoyuan was originally slated to be located near the Taoyuan Airport MRT A16 Hengshan Station, with the city government providing the land. NTHU and KMU signed an agreement in July of the previous year, with KMU planning to invest NT$10 billion in the hospital's construction. However, KMU withdrew from the project last year, and the agreement was terminated in December of that year. The current MOU between the city government and NTHU is set to expire in August of this year. If NTHU fails to secure a new partner by then, the city government will reclaim the land.
