From Abandonment to Desperation: Taiwanese Father's Unsuccessful Plea for Support

In a stark case unfolding in Taiwan, a father who abandoned his family years ago is now facing the repercussions of his actions. The man, who left his wife and two children when they were just eight and nine years old, is now seeking financial support from them.

After the father's departure, the mother was forced to work in the sex industry to provide for her children. Now, the father, with a reported annual income of only NT$100, is requesting that each of his adult children pay him NT$10,000 per month in support.

The Tainan District Court, acknowledging the severity of the father's failure to fulfill his parental duties, has ruled in favor of the children, absolving them of any obligation to provide support. The court recognized the profound impact of the father's abandonment and the subsequent hardships endured by the children, including their mother's difficult employment circumstances.

The father argued that his lack of employment, income, and savings necessitated the support from his children, requesting the monthly payments starting from January 1st of this year until his death. However, the court's decision highlights the legal and moral implications of parental responsibility and the consequences of failing to meet those obligations.
