TSMC Faces Potential Billion-Dollar US Fine: What's at Stake?

According to reports, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a cornerstone of Taiwan's tech prowess, is potentially facing a hefty fine of up to $1 billion USD. The news stems from an investigation regarding alleged connections between TSMC-produced chips and Huawei's AI server components.

Sources indicate the United States Department of Commerce is scrutinizing TSMC's dealings, particularly its relationship with Sophgo, a mainland Chinese company. The investigation centers on chips manufactured by TSMC for Sophgo, which are believed to be akin to those found in Huawei's advanced Ascend 910B AI processors. This suggests that TSMC-made chips may have ultimately found their way into Huawei's AI processing technology.
