Japan Unveils Evacuation Plan for Taiwan Contingency: Six-Day Operation to Relocate 120,000

The Japanese government has, for the first time, publicly released its contingency plan for situations related to "Taiwan contingencies." This includes a detailed strategy to evacuate approximately 120,000 residents and tourists from the Okinawa Prefecture's Sakishima Islands within approximately six days.

According to a report by Japan's public broadcaster, NHK, the plan involves the mobilization of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), the Japan Coast Guard, civilian ferries, and aircraft. The goal is to secure a transportation capacity of 20,000 people per day. The evacuation is planned to relocate approximately 120,000 individuals, including residents and tourists from the five municipalities of the Sakishima Islands (including Miyako-jima City and Ishigaki City) to locations such as Fukuoka Airport and Kagoshima Airport.
