Tragic Loss: Two Mountaineers Perish in Fall on Yushan, Taiwan

A devastating tragedy unfolded on Yushan, Taiwan's highest peak, as two young mountaineers, reportedly in their twenties, lost their lives after a fall. The incident occurred near the "Devil's Slope" at the main peak and north peak junction.

The challenging terrain and hazardous icy conditions significantly complicated the rescue efforts. Due to the depth of the fall, estimated at 380 meters, and the difficult environment, the rescue was incredibly difficult. After over four hours of dedicated work, rescue personnel successfully moved the bodies to a more accessible location. In the afternoon, a helicopter from the National Airborne Service Corps was able to recover the bodies.

According to the Nantou County Fire Department, the alarm was raised around 11:00 a.m. yesterday. A mountaineer named Peng reported finding the hiking poles and hats of his friends, Lu (陸) and Lin (林), near the trail. Bloodstains were also present at the scene, and they were unable to contact their companions. Suspecting a fall, Peng immediately contacted 119 for assistance.
