Gang Member's Hamstring Severed in Retaliation Attack; Two Suspects Detained

A significant incident involving the severing of a gang leader's hamstring has led to the swift apprehension of two suspects. The victim, identified by the moniker "Black Dog," a figure associated with the Tiandao Alliance, was attacked on the first of the month. Following the incident, law enforcement quickly took into custody a 20-year-old suspect surnamed Xu and a 25-year-old suspect surnamed Wang. After further questioning, prosecutors requested their detention and a ban on visitation, a request that was granted by the court on the evening of the second, resulting in both individuals being held in custody without the possibility of visits.

Investigations suggest that the attack on "Black Dog" occurred on the same day as the funeral of a rival gang leader, known as "Godfather of South Wanhua," Gao Baosheng. The two had a history of conflict stemming from disputes over construction projects. Despite mediation efforts by other influential figures in the underworld, their animosity escalated. Gao Baosheng himself had previously suffered a similar injury, with his hamstring being severed, a grievance he reportedly carried until his passing.

Gao Baosheng passed away due to illness, and his funeral was held at the New Taipei City Municipal Funeral Home on the first. In the afternoon of that day, Gao's godson, the 20-year-old suspect Xu, along with the 25-year-old suspect Wang, allegedly ambushed "Black Dog" in a parking lot on Hankou Street in Wanhua District, severing his hamstring.

Following the commission of the alleged crime, the two suspects did not attempt to flee but instead awaited the arrival of the police. They cooperated fully with the investigation and were taken to the police station for questioning. Both have been charged with aggravated assault. After further interrogation, prosecutors petitioned the court for their detention and a ban on visitation, which was approved on the evening of the second. The investigation into the full circumstances of the case is ongoing.
