Massive Traffic Gridlock Grips Xizhi and Nangang Areas, Drivers Stranded for Hours

An unusual and severe traffic jam paralyzed the Xizhi and Nangang districts on the evening of the 17th. Major thoroughfares including Huandong Boulevard, Jingmao 2nd Road, and the vicinity of the Nangang Exhibition Center experienced complete standstill. Numerous drivers reported being stuck for over an hour, a stark contrast to their usual commute times. Some individuals were trapped in the underground parking lot of the World Trade Park for nearly two hours, with one driver recounting, "It took over an hour to get from B3 to B1, and I'm still in the parking lot heading into my second hour."

Online discussions revealed that the congestion was exacerbated by multiple factors. An accident involving a bus (919) and a truck on Jingmao 2nd Road was cited as a primary cause. Additionally, reports mentioned two vehicles blocking multiple lanes on Jingmao Road, contributing to the widespread traffic chaos. The situation was further compounded by concurrent exhibitions at both the Nangang Exhibition Center's Hall 1 and Hall 2, the evening rush hour commute, and the decision of many to drive due to rainy weather, leading to a sudden surge in vehicle volume.
