Taiwan Braces for Significant Temperature Drop as Cold Air Arrives Next Week

Residents of Taiwan are advised to make the most of the pleasant weather this weekend, as a notable shift is expected early next week. The Meteorological Agency has indicated that while the northeast monsoon will slightly weaken tomorrow, leading to a temperature rise in northern Taiwan and Yilan, mornings and evenings will remain cool across the island. Increased moisture may bring localized brief showers to the Keelung North Coast, Yilan region, and mountainous areas of Greater Taipei. Sporadic rainfall is also possible in Greater Taipei, the eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula, with other areas expected to be mostly cloudy to sunny.

The situation is set to change significantly starting Monday, as the northeast monsoon intensifies and cold air moves south. Temperatures will turn cooler across the island. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the impact of this cold air will be most pronounced in central and northern Taiwan, as well as in Yilan and Hualien, where conditions will be noticeably cooler. Other regions will also experience cool mornings and evenings. From Monday to Tuesday, the northern and eastern parts of the island, along with the Hengchun Peninsula, have a high probability of rainfall. Specifically, the Keelung North Coast, Yilan region, and mountainous areas of Greater Taipei could experience continuous and significant rainfall, with a chance of localized heavy showers. The central and southern plains are expected to be mostly cloudy, though mountainous areas might see isolated brief showers. By Wednesday, moisture levels are anticipated to decrease gradually, with northern Taiwan and the Yilan-Hualien region still experiencing localized brief showers. Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula may also see sporadic rainfall.
