Taiwan Boosts Domestic Tourism with New Incentives: Up to NT$2,000 Subsidy for Midweek Stays

Domestic tourism in Taiwan has faced significant challenges in recent years, with areas like Hualien being particularly affected by frequent natural disasters. Following past seismic events, many local businesses in the hospitality and dining sectors have either closed or relocated. To encourage more people to travel within Taiwan, especially during weekdays, the Minister of Transportation and Communications, Chen Shih-kai, announced the upcoming launch of a "Weekday Domestic Travel Incentive Program" starting early next year.

This initiative is expected to involve the issuance of accommodation vouchers. Under the plan, individuals can receive subsidies for up to two consecutive nights of weekday stays. The first night will be eligible for a NT$800 discount, and the second consecutive night will receive a NT$1,200 discount, totaling a potential NT$2,000 subsidy per person. The program aims to specifically encourage people to travel and stay longer during weekdays.

To further bolster domestic tourism and incentivize weekday travel, the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has outlined five key programs for implementation next year. These include the "Weekday Accommodation Discount Program," the "Birthday Accommodation Discount Program," the "Amusement Park Overnight Stay Program," the "Corporate Employee Domestic Travel Incentive Program," and the "Taiwan PASS Weekday Domestic Travel Discount Program." The estimated total budget for these initiatives is approximately NT$2 billion, with the overarching goal of increasing hotel occupancy rates during weekdays.
