Taiwan High Speed Rail Adds Extra Services Amidst Tropical Storm Fung-Wong

Nangang-Taichung Route Boosted Wednesday Evening to Accommodate Passengers Affected by Weather Disruptions

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) has announced the addition of four extra trains on the Nangang to Taichung route for Wednesday evening. This decision comes after morning services were adjusted due to the anticipated impact of Tropical Storm Fung-Wong.

The additional services are scheduled to depart from Nangang for Taichung at 5:30 p.m., 5:50 p.m., 6:10 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. These trains will make stops at all stations along the route, as confirmed by THSRC in a statement.

THSRC has also noted that seating will be available on an unreserved basis for all cars, with the exception of the business class section.

Earlier in the day, THSRC had reduced its service frequency to three trains per hour in each direction between Nangang and Kaohsiung's Zuoying Station, starting from 6 a.m. This measure was implemented in anticipation of Tropical Storm Fung-Wong's expected effects.

Following the service adjustments, images circulated on social media depicting significant passenger queues, with some users reporting wait times of up to an hour to board a train.

After a thorough reassessment of weather conditions and passenger demand, THSRC made the decision to introduce the four supplementary train services.

According to the Central Weather Administration, Tropical Storm Fung-Wong is projected to make landfall in southern Taiwan on Wednesday evening before moving back out to sea off Taitung County.
