Penghu County Offers a Whole Grouper as a Finish Line Prize for Upcoming 11k Race

The Penghu County government has announced an innovative promotional strategy for an upcoming road race, offering a substantial reward to participants: a one-kilogram grouper fish for every runner who completes the course. This initiative aims to draw attention and encourage participation in the event.

Scheduled for January 18, 2026, the "Run in Penghu" (年年有魚主題路跑) race is designed to stimulate tourism in the Penghu County, an island region, particularly during the winter season. The Penghu Magistrate, Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復), highlighted this objective during a press conference.

The race will feature two course options: a challenging 11-kilometer race and a more relaxed 5-kilometer route suitable for both adults and children. This variety ensures that runners of different fitness levels can participate.

Registration for the event commenced on Tuesday, with a limited capacity of 500 spots reserved for Penghu residents and 600 for non-residents. The registration fee is set at NT$200 (approximately US$6.41).

Upon successfully finishing their chosen race, all competitors will receive a one-kilogram grouper as a prize. For participants traveling from outside the county, an alternative prize of a NT$500 consumption voucher is available, as stated by Chen Kuang-fu.

The 11-kilometer race is set to commence in front of the Penghu County government building in Magong City and will conclude at the Magong Caiyuan's Soil and Water Conservation Classroom, according to details provided by the county government.
