Taiwan Alerts Residents to Powerful Winds and Giant Waves Amidst Stormy Weather

Residents across Taiwan were awakened by national alerts early this morning due to the impact of a northeasterly monsoon and a low-pressure system. Heavy rainfall has been persistent in northern Taiwan, prompting the Central Weather Administration (CWA) to issue strong wind advisories for 19 counties and cities. Many individuals received national-level alerts warning of potential "Level 10 strong gusts."

Furthermore, residents along the coast of Taoyuan have been receiving "coastal giant wave warnings" since Tuesday evening through this morning, causing considerable alarm.

The CWA released a "Real-time Long Wave Message" at 5:17 AM today, indicating that coastal areas throughout Taiwan, including Lanyu, Green Island, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, are likely to experience long waves. Currently, wave heights of 3 to 7.5 meters have been observed in locations such as New Taipei (Pengjia Islet, Fugui Cape, Taipei Port, Longdong), Yilan (Su'ao), and Taitung (Taitung, Chenggong). The public is advised to exercise caution.
