Shalun Beach Gets a Makeover: Volunteers to Clean and Celebrate in Tamsui, Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Embrace the spirit of community and environmental stewardship as volunteers gear up for a beach clean-up at Shalun Beach in Tamsui. Thanks to easy public transportation, this inviting coastal gem is now more accessible than ever for city dwellers eager to contribute to a cleaner environment.

Shalun Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand perfect for activities like sunbathing, volleyball, and soccer, is easily reachable from Taipei via the new light rail transit line.

This collaborative event is organized by Havana, Redpoint Brewing, and the nearby Beautiful Moon Cafe, with the goal of maintaining the beach's cleanliness throughout the year. Organizers are encouraging the public to participate, emphasizing the importance of taking pride in our surroundings.

To show their appreciation, volunteers will be rewarded with free Havana Summer IPA for two hours after the clean-up. As the sun sets, a lively after-party will kick off with music from DJs such as Marcus Aurelius, NeKBRACE, Cross Cutz, and Planet GQ.

The event welcomes families and pets, and will also feature a range of dance contests. "The best kind of fun is the kind you earn," says organizer Marcus Aurelius.

"There’s always debris, driftwood and bits of paper on the beach, and it needs to be picked up. It’s hot and tiring work, but worthwhile for the beer at the end," shared area resident Gary O’Connor. He mentions that events like this offer a chance for newcomers to connect with the Tamsui community.

Beautiful Moon Cafe offers a full menu and wash-up services, making it a convenient landmark for the clean-up activity. For easy access, take the MRT to Hongshulin Station, then transfer to the LRT to Shanlun Station. Alternatively, take a taxi from Tamsui MRT station to Beautiful Moon Cafe, located at Danhai Road Lane 280, Alley 33, No. 32.
