Taiwan Court Upholds Not Guilty Verdict in Sensitive Family Case

A case involving allegations of sexual assault within a family in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has concluded with the High Court upholding a not guilty verdict. The initial accusations involved a woman alleging that her father-in-law sexually assaulted her. The woman later died, along with her husband, in a double-fall incident.

The woman claimed that the incident occurred in 2021, prior to the Lunar New Year. The prosecution had charged the father-in-law with sexual assault, but he denied the accusations.

During the legal proceedings, the father-in-law's legal representation argued that the woman had a history of drug use and that the accusations were fabricated due to family conflicts. Given the deaths of both the woman and her husband, the court found it difficult to establish the facts definitively, concluding that it was difficult to exclude the possibility of false accusations.
