A recent incident on the Central Cross-Island Highway in Taiwan has resulted in injuries to a passenger following a rockfall. The event occurred during the 7 AM scheduled passage of a vehicle along the route.

The incident took place at the 12.5-kilometer mark of the highway. A rock, estimated to weigh approximately 5 kilograms, dislodged from the mountainside and struck the vehicle, smashing through the right-side windshield. The impact caused the rock to land on the passenger's thigh, resulting in abrasions and bruising.

The driver immediately brought the vehicle to a stop at a safe location. Control personnel responded promptly to assist, notifying the management office and coordinating emergency medical services. The injured passenger was transported to a hospital for medical attention.

According to a statement from the Director of the Gukuan Engineering Office, Rao Zheming, mountainous areas are prone to landslides, especially after afternoon thunderstorms. He emphasized the importance of cautious driving in such areas and advised travelers to seek assistance from accompanying security personnel when facing any challenges.
