A Bold Proposition: Calls for "Second Xi'an Incident" to Achieve Taiwan's Unification

A Chinese Scholar Suggests "Smart" Tactics to Resolve Cross-Strait Tensions in Response to Taiwan's New Security Policy.
A Bold Proposition: Calls for

Amidst escalating cross-strait tensions, a senior scholar from the China Globalisation Thinktank (CCG), Gao Zhikai, has proposed a daring strategy to achieve unification with Taiwan. In an interview with the Chinese online media outlet, Guancha.cn, Gao suggested that the recent implementation of President Lai Ching-te’s national security "17条" (17 Articles) has fundamentally altered the existing cross-strait status quo.

Gao, who previously served as a translator for the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, highlighted the need for decisive action, advocating for a strategy akin to the "Second Xi'an Incident." He emphasized the importance of a "smart" approach to achieve unification. This follows Lai Ching-te’s government designating the mainland as a "hostile foreign force" within the framework of the "17 Articles," prompting Gao's call for action.

According to Gao, this development necessitates Beijing to take this issue seriously, emphasizing the need for effective counter measures. The scholar's proposal reflects growing concern and potentially a shift in strategic thinking regarding Taiwan's future within China's sphere of influence. The proposal remains highly controversial.
