Taiwan's Coast Guard Makes Massive Drug Bust: Over 2 Billion NTD Worth of Narcotics Seized

In a significant victory for law enforcement, Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration (海巡署) intercepted a vessel carrying over 1.6 metric tons of illicit substances. The operation, conducted near the Dongsha Islands, resulted in the seizure of a massive quantity of K-drug (ketamine) and over 20 kilograms of amphetamines, with an estimated street value exceeding 2 billion New Taiwan Dollars.

The targeted fishing vessel, the "Man Rui Fu," had been inactive for seven months and was suspected of prior smuggling activities. The Coast Guard's inspection revealed the enormous haul of narcotics. Following the discovery, the Taiwanese captain, identified as Mr. Chen, and two Indonesian crew members were taken into custody.

Intelligence gathered by the Hsinchu County Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division indicated that Mr. Chen was planning a major operation. It is believed that he exploited the owner's health issues to utilize the "Man Rui Fu" (CT4-1098), which is affiliated with the Keelung District Fishermen's Association, for drug smuggling. The intended unloading point was suspected to be Hsinchu Fishing Harbor.
