Taiwan Faces Immigration Controversy: Mainland Chinese Resident Ordered to Leave

The case of "Xiao Wei," a Mainland Chinese resident facing deportation due to her social media posts, ignites debate in Taiwan.

The Immigration Department in Taiwan is preparing to deport "Xiao Wei," a Mainland Chinese spouse, who was given a deadline to leave Taiwan following controversial statements made on social media platforms, including Douyin. Her deadline expired yesterday, and she is now considered to be overstaying her visa. The deportation is expected to be carried out as early as this morning.

Xiao Wei's case stems from her online postings in which she stated that "Taiwan is China's Taiwan" and that "Taiwan's streets are filled with the five-starred red flag." Following these statements, she received an order to leave Taiwan. A video surfaced on the social media platform "Xigua Video" where Xiao Wei tearfully recounts her experience, alleging that her videos were stolen and taken out of context by Taiwanese citizens, leading to cyberbullying. She stated that she did not pose any threat to Taiwan and did not threaten it.

On her Douyin account, "Taiwan Province Couple with Three Children," Xiao Wei previously posted a notification letter from the Ministry of the Interior. She expressed that "Loving my country is glorious, and I accept any cost. I am gloriously and happily going home! I am an upright Chinese person! I will never be afraid of anything, I will face all the storms." However, her tone has shifted to a more subdued one, reminiscent of the departure of the Mainland Chinese spouse "Ya Ya".
