Taiwan Feels the Rumble: Powerful Earthquake Shakes Myanmar

On November 28th, the island of Taiwan and surrounding regions felt the impact of a significant earthquake. Reported by Reuters, the temblor, originating in Myanmar, registered a powerful magnitude of 7.7.

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake struck in the afternoon. Initial reports placed the magnitude at 6.9, before being upgraded to 7.4. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) further elevated the assessment to a 7.7 magnitude, highlighting the considerable strength of the event.

The earthquake's epicenter was located near Mandalay, Myanmar, with a remarkably shallow depth of just 10 kilometers. This shallow depth often translates to more intense ground shaking and a potentially wider felt impact across affected regions, including the possibility of tremors being felt in Taiwan.
