Taipei City Moves Forward: Compulsory Demolition Completed in Zhongshan District Urban Renewal Project

The Taipei City Government successfully completed the compulsory demolition of properties in the Zhongshan-Jilin section urban renewal project on June 27, 2024. This action, taken under the Urban Renewal Act, marks a significant step forward in the revitalization of this area of Taipei, Taiwan.

The demolition was executed after the consenting households had already relocated by June 20, 2024. The City Government, committed to fulfilling the expectations of those who agreed to move, ensured the rights of the holdout properties were protected through the rights exchange mechanism. Following the demolition, the project implementer will assist with the relocation of the holdout families.

The project, located on Minsheng East Road, Section 1, is spearheaded by Maowei Construction Co., Ltd. The pre-renewal conditions involved aging, dilapidated apartments built in 1963, highlighting the urgent need for redevelopment. The new construction is planned to include 78 residential units, 15 commercial units, and dedicated public spaces, including a 257.35 m² pedestrian walkway, further improving the liveability.
