Protecting Taiwan's Deaf Community: Police Warn of Latest Scams

Recognizing the vulnerability of Taiwan's hearing-impaired community to evolving fraud tactics, the Tainan City Police Department’s Crime Prevention Division has taken proactive steps to safeguard this population. With communication barriers limiting access to information, the hearing-impaired are at a higher risk of falling victim to increasingly sophisticated scams.

To address this, the Crime Prevention Division recently partnered with the Tainan Shenghui Association for the Hearing Impaired to deliver crucial fraud prevention information directly to its members.

On the 23rd of this month, the Division utilized sign language and transcription services to effectively communicate anti-fraud strategies. The police explained that the hearing-impaired, often proficient in typing and reading, are commonly targeted through scams such as fake online friendships and fraudulent investment schemes. These 诈骗集团 (fraud groups) primarily utilize communication platforms like Line and social media platforms like Facebook to perpetrate their crimes.
