Taiwan Lawmaker's Police Station Parking Dispute Sparks Online Backlash and Harassment

Controversy erupts after Changhua County councilwoman, Lai Qingmei, faces criticism and receives harassing calls following a parking incident at a police station.

A recent incident involving Changhua County councilwoman, 賴清美 (Lai Qingmei), has ignited a firestorm of online criticism and led to a series of harassing phone calls. On the afternoon of June 21st, 賴清美 (Lai Qingmei) parked her car at the Wanggong Police Station under the jurisdiction of the Fangyuan Police Branch. A dispute ensued with the officer on duty, prompting 賴清美 (Lai Qingmei) to share the incident on Facebook.

Her post, which criticized the officer's actions and highlighted the irony of the "Happy to Serve You" sign on the service desk, quickly went viral. The online response was overwhelmingly negative, with many accusing 賴清美 (Lai Qingmei) of attempting to use special privileges. In the wake of the online backlash, 賴清美 (Lai Qingmei) reportedly received 17 harassing phone calls in the middle of the night.

The councilwoman claims that the online attacks are based on incomplete information, as those posting did not witness the events. She expressed disappointment at the online "bullying," and has stated that if the late-night harassment continues, she will consider legal action. The Changhua County Police Department is scheduled to convene a meeting to investigate the situation and clarify the facts.
