A friend of Chen's shared information on Facebook, including a conversation with the owner of the lodging, highlighting the last known location and communication. The final message from Chen, sent at 6:29 PM on February 20th, indicated he was "1.5K remaining, steep descent to the check dam."

Search teams worked tirelessly over the past few days to locate the missing hiker. The search concluded with the recovery of his body, the afternoon of February 23rd. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the body showing serious injuries.
