Taiwan Braces for Cooler Temperatures and Rain as Northeast Monsoon Arrives

Taiwan is set to experience a noticeable change in weather as the northeast monsoon strengthens, bringing cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain, according to forecasters. The Central Weather Administration has indicated that by Sunday, the northern and northeastern parts of the island will begin to feel the chill.

In addition to the strengthening monsoon, there is a chance that moisture from tropical systems to the south could be drawn northward, potentially increasing rainfall. The exact extent of the temperature drop and the affected rain areas are still under observation, but initial forecasts suggest that northern and eastern Taiwan can expect some precipitation.

Looking at the week ahead, forecasters anticipate scattered brief showers in eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula on Monday and Tuesday. In the afternoons, localized thunderstorms are possible in areas south of Chiayi and in mountainous regions.

From Wednesday to Saturday, the prevailing wind is expected to be from the east. This will bring scattered brief showers to the Keelung North Coast, eastern Taiwan, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Afternoon thunderstorms are predicted to be more confined to mountainous areas. Daytime high temperatures are expected to reach between 33-35 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan and 31-32 degrees Celsius in eastern Taiwan.
