Taiwan Railway Suspends Pingxi Line Service Amidst Torrential Downpours

Train operations on Taiwan's picturesque Pingxi Line in New Taipei have been temporarily suspended due to the impact of heavy rainfall in the mountainous regions. Taiwan Railway Corp. Ltd. announced the precautionary measure on Monday, prioritizing passenger safety.

The state-run railway operator confirmed that alternative bus services have been put in place to assist travelers affected by the disruption. The resumption of train services will be contingent upon weather conditions, with updates to be provided accordingly. Passengers are strongly advised to consult the latest travel advisories before commencing their journeys.

Earlier on Monday, the Central Weather Administration had issued significant weather warnings, including advisories for torrential and extremely heavy rain across Taipei and New Taipei. Similar advisories for heavy rain were also in effect for Taoyuan, Keelung City, and Yilan County.

The weather agency cautioned residents in these areas to be prepared for sudden bursts of intense rainfall and strong winds. Particular attention was drawn to the risks of flooding in low-lying areas and the potential for landslides, falling rocks, mudflows, and rapid water level increases in mountainous terrains.
