Taiwan Freeways Brace for Mid-Autumn Festival Travel Surge: Expect Delays Sunday Afternoon

As Taiwan's Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend continues, significant traffic congestion is anticipated on numerous freeway sections on Sunday afternoon. The Freeway Bureau has alerted the public to potential delays, although morning conditions were generally smooth.

According to real-time traffic data, traffic flow was largely unimpeded around midday. The bureau projects a total traffic volume of approximately 115 million vehicle-kilometers for the day, which is about 1.3 times the typical weekday average. With favorable weather conditions expected across the island, heavy travel is predicted for the afternoon.

Drivers should be aware of potential congestion on the following key freeway segments:

Northbound traffic on western Taiwan's freeways is expected to intensify between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., with improvements anticipated after 8 p.m. On Freeway No. 5, northbound traffic is predicted to increase after noon and may not fully clear until midnight.

For those traveling southbound on Freeway No. 5, departing after 5 p.m. is recommended to bypass the heaviest congestion.

Motorists are encouraged to utilize the Freeway Bureau's 1968 website (https://1968.freeway.gov.tw/) or their mobile application for the latest real-time traffic updates.
