Taiwan Braces for Extended "Autumn Tiger" Heatwave in October

Despite the calendar turning to October, a persistent high-pressure system is keeping temperatures high across Taiwan, delaying the expected autumn cool-down.
Taiwan Braces for Extended

As October begins, meteorologists are warning of an extended period of warm weather, often referred to as an "Autumn Tiger." Recent weather modeling indicates that Taiwan will remain under the influence of a Pacific high-pressure system for the next seven days, leading to continued high daytime temperatures across the island.

Typically, after the start of autumn in early August, Taiwan experiences a gradual cooling trend. However, the current strong presence of the Pacific high-pressure system is preventing cooler air masses from moving south. This phenomenon is causing a temporary return to heat, with several consecutive days of scorching temperatures. For instance, a high of 38.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Neihu, Taipei, on a recent Tuesday. This extended warmth is also contributing to a noticeable increase in the temperature difference between day and night.
