Taiwan Braces for Potential Typhoons Around Mid-Autumn Festival

As October approaches, the question of whether new typhoons will form remains a topic of interest. A meteorological social media page, "Teacher Lin's Weather Station," indicated today that both the European EC-AIFS and American NCEP models show continued tropical disturbance activity around the Mid-Autumn Festival period. This suggests a potential for the formation of at least one to two typhoons.

However, it is currently too early to determine if these potential typhoons will approach or affect Taiwan. Residents are advised not to worry excessively at this stage and to continue monitoring weather updates.

According to "Teacher Lin's Weather Station," a total of 20 typhoons have formed in the South China Sea and the Northwest Pacific Ocean so far this year. This number is slightly higher than the climate average of 18.6 typhoons for January to September, based on data from 1911 to 2024. Of these, three typhoons – Danas, Lekima, and Kajiki – have impacted Taiwan, which is also slightly above the climate average of 2.93 typhoons affecting the island.
