Keelung Islet Hiking Trail Partially Closed Due to Seismic Activity and Rockfalls

Safety Measures Implemented on Popular Tourist Route Following Structural Damage
Keelung Islet Hiking Trail Partially Closed Due to Seismic Activity and Rockfalls

Recent seismic activity and rockfalls have led to damage on the hiking trail of Keelung Islet, specifically affecting the section from the viewing platform to the lighthouse. To ensure visitor safety, the Keelung City Government announced that this portion of the trail will be temporarily closed starting from the first of the month. Repair work will commence concurrently.

Keelung Islet is a significant maritime tourist destination in Northern Taiwan. As of September this year, the island has welcomed over 50,800 visitors. The hiking trail, in particular, is a favored route for tourists seeking panoramic views of the natural landscape and the stunning seascape.

However, due to the cumulative effects of earthquakes, rockfalls, and years of use, structural damage has been identified in the latter part of the trail, from the viewing platform to the lighthouse. Following an assessment by professional bodies, immediate safety concerns have been identified, necessitating the partial closure of the affected area.
