Taiwan Taoyuan Airport Gears Up for Bumper Holiday Travel Season

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is anticipating a significant surge in passenger traffic, with over 1.95 million travelers expected to use the airport across three upcoming long holiday weekends. This busy period is set to include Teacher’s Day, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.

The airport projects passenger volumes of approximately 630,000 for Teacher’s Day, 640,000 for the Mid-Autumn Festival, and 670,000 for National Day. This translates to an average of 127,000 to 134,000 passengers and between 726 to 730 flights each day during these holidays.

Airport officials note that during the initial two holiday periods, arrivals are expected to slightly outnumber departures, likely due to individuals returning home for family gatherings associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival. The extended holiday durations are also anticipated to help distribute passenger flow, potentially mitigating severe congestion.

A key update for international travelers is that starting October 1, all foreign visitors will be required to complete the online Taiwan Arrival Card. This must be done up to three days prior to their arrival. The online service is conveniently available in seven languages on the airport's official website and the National Immigration Agency portal.

To ensure a smoother travel experience, passengers are encouraged to utilize early check-in facilities available at Taipei Main Station or New Taipei Industrial Park Station. The airport also recommends the use of self-service baggage drop and e-Gate clearance systems. Travelers should be aware that peak inbound times at the airport are typically around 5 a.m. and between 3–5 p.m., while peak outbound times are from 7–9 a.m. and around 11 p.m.

To manage the increased demand, public transportation services will be enhanced. Shuttle bus schedules will be adjusted during the holiday periods of September 27–29, October 4–6, and October 10–12. Additionally, Kuo-Kuang bus services to Taipei will introduce late-night services operating between 1–2 a.m. Ubus routes will also see increased frequency, with the 1623 service to Taichung running every 15–30 minutes, and the 1661 service to Luodong adding two daily trips at 9:20 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Extra taxis will be available at Terminal 1 Meeting Point 12 and Terminal 2 Meeting Point 26.

For optimal travel planning, the airport strongly advises passengers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.
