Taiwan Police Apprehend Escaped Migrant Workers After Altercation

In Taiwan, police in Donggang Township, Pingtung County, successfully apprehended two escaped migrant workers following a report of a vehicle illegally parked in a loading zone. The incident occurred on the afternoon of the 2nd, when officers from the Dongbin Police Station responded to a call regarding the parked vehicle near a church on Chaolong Road.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to investigate the vehicle. However, the passengers inside panicked and fled in different directions. Police initiated a pursuit, successfully locating and apprehending two individuals identified as escaped migrant workers from Vietnam. One of the apprehended individuals was found hiding in a drainage ditch.

During the apprehension process, one of the migrant workers physically assaulted an officer by punching them. The officer experienced dizziness and chest tightness and was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. Fortunately, the officer was found to be out of danger and is currently hospitalized for observation.

The two apprehended Vietnamese nationals were handed over to the Pingtung Investigation Corps of the National Immigration Agency for processing due to their status as overstaying foreign nationals. The individual who assaulted the officer is being investigated for obstructing official duties and will be referred to the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office.

The Donggang Police Precinct chief, Gao Zhi-zheng, emphasized the precinct's zero-tolerance policy for illegal activities. He urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities to the police, assuring that law enforcement will diligently investigate and address such matters to maintain public safety and create a secure community.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend three other escaped migrant workers who remain at large.
