Taiwan Braces for Intensified Rainfall: 16 Counties and Cities Under Heavy Rain Advisory

Rainfall intensity has escalated, and the affected areas have expanded. The Central Weather Administration issued a heavy rain advisory for 16 counties and cities across Taiwan this afternoon at 3:45 PM, with the possibility of the downpours continuing into the evening.

The Administration indicated that convective cloud systems are developing vigorously in the afternoon, leading to a high likelihood of short-duration, intense rainfall. Specifically, Pingtung County may experience localized heavy to torrential rain today (August 18th). Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung areas, and mountainous regions throughout the island have a chance of localized heavy rain. Residents are advised to be aware of potential lightning strikes and strong gusts. In mountainous areas, caution is urged due to the risk of landslides, falling rocks, and sudden rises in river levels.
