Major Landslide Disrupts Central Cross-Island Highway in Taiwan Due to Heavy Rain
Section of Provincial Highway 8 between Lishan and Dayuling impassable after significant rock and soil collapse; emergency repairs underway.
Heavy rainfall has caused a substantial landslide on Provincial Highway 8 at kilometer 94.5, a critical section connecting Lishan and Dayuling in Taiwan. The incident occurred around 10 PM yesterday, with a large volume of soil and rocks collapsing from the right side of the slope.
The landslide also resulted in the severing of utility poles and power lines, leading to a power outage in the direction of Dayuling. As the debris continued to slide overnight, personnel from the relevant engineering section took immediate safety measures. Security personnel were deployed to establish a blockade and control access to the affected area.
Authorities anticipate that the road will be reopened by late this afternoon. To alleviate traffic congestion and assist travelers, additional shuttle services will be added to the Central Cross-Island Highway temporary road today, with departures scheduled for 10 AM and 2 PM.
The Gukuan Engineering Section is advising all vehicles traveling between Lishan and Dayuling to seek alternative routes and apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.
