A major landslide has occurred at Tunnel No. 2 along the Mianyue Line of the Alishan Forest Railway in Chiayi County, Taiwan. This popular route, known as a hidden gem for hikers and photographers, experienced a large-scale collapse of earth and rocks.

In response to the incident, the Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency announced that applications to enter the Taiwan Lily Nature Reserve have been suspended for August 9th and 10th. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of visitors. The closure is expected to affect around 300 people who had planned to visit the area.

The Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office is currently working on clearing the debris. The affected area has been cordoned off with warning signs explaining the situation. Forest rangers are on-site to advise visitors against entering, and some individuals have already turned back from the collapse site.

The reopening date for applications and access to the Mianyue Line will be announced later, depending on the progress of inspections and repairs.
