Su-hua Highway Reopens with Single-Lane Traffic After Rockslide

The Su-hua Highway, a critical route in Taiwan, experienced a temporary closure due to falling rocks and landslides. The incident occurred on Taiwan's Provincial Highway No. 9 at kilometer marker 117+200 in the Dongao section. The road was blocked at approximately 4:50 PM.

Following the blockage, the Nanao Works Section of the Eastern District Maintenance Engineering Branch of the Directorate General of Highways (DGH) dispatched an emergency repair team. Their diligent efforts led to the reopening of the road by 6:40 PM. Initially, the highway will operate under a single-lane, two-way traffic control system to enhance safety for travelers.

To ensure safe passage during the night, lighting equipment has been prepared, and repair machinery and personnel are stationed at both ends of the affected section, ready to respond.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution. After periods of heavy rain or typhoons, mountain roads are prone to landslides and falling rocks, making conditions unpredictable. Travelers are advised to avoid mountain roads during such times. The instability of these routes after severe weather necessitates proactive planning to prevent being stranded.

The Directorate General of Highways recommends utilizing their real-time provincial highway information service website (https://168.thb.gov.tw) or downloading the "Happy Highway APP" for the latest road conditions. Listening to traffic radio broadcasts is also advised to stay informed about any ongoing road closures or advisories. The DGH encourages everyone to plan their journeys accordingly and prepare for any necessary contingency measures, wishing all travelers a safe journey.
