On July 3rd, a United States airline flight scheduled to fly from Puerto Rico to Dallas, Texas, made an emergency return to its departure airport after a passenger misinterpreted a text message on a neighboring passenger's phone. Fortunately, an investigation confirmed that it was a false alarm.

The incident was first reported by the local Puerto Rican media outlet Primera Hora. The flight involved was American Airlines flight AA 1847, carrying 193 passengers. The aircraft took off from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and was headed to Dallas Fort Worth. About 30 minutes into the flight, authorities decided to return the plane to Puerto Rico due to a perceived threat, which later turned out to be a misunderstanding.
